Direct Action

From Jose Miguel Hernandez Wiki

Written and directed by Colin Murray, this short story takes place in San Francisco at the outbreak of war on Iraq. A group of activist students gather in a classroom to plan a last-ditch response to the Bush Administration's unpopular military invasion of Iraq. Conflict arises as the students realize that while they share a common enemy, they each embody a slightly different set of ideals which reflect each of their political, racial, sexual and socioeconomic realities. In the second act, these differences are mediated through dialogue. By the end of the film, ideals break down and come full circle. Conflict is not cleanly resolved in a traditional Hollywood fashion, but instead amplified by the multiple and diverse subject positions of our characters. As Assistant Director I worked closely with Colin on the technical and logistical details of production from script massaging to editing to the final DVD and web export. Direct Action was screened at C&M Bar in San Francisco on July 28th, 2005.
